Coaching & Referee Education

The Canadian Gaelic Athletic Association is committed to implementing an integrated Coach and Referee Education Pathway with a view to maximizing participation and optimizing best playing standards and practice. We have certified Tutors across Canada who are available to deliver referee, Foundation and Level 1 Gaelic Football and Hurling/Camogie certified coaching courses within your club/division.  Working with Ulster GAA, LGFA, GAA and Camogie Association, we want to ensure the best standard are reached in coach and referee education.

If you are a member of the Canada GAA and are interested in hosting a course for your club please review the steps and information  below:

  1. Complete and submit the application form: Host a course application. The minimum number of participants is 10 per course as they require a certain level of interaction.
  2. CGAA then assigns a tutor based on availability, proximity and qualifications and will connect the Tutor to the host unit to liaise on location, accommodation, course requirements (timing, balls, equipment, lunch) venue etc. All of this is at the cost of the host unit.
  3. The course goes ahead and an attendance sheet is completed & submitted to CGAA Coaching Officer within 24 hours of the course taking place.
  4. CGAA Coaching Officer will Work with Ulster to issue certifications, this will automatically appear in Tobar profile for each course participant.
  5. Submit an application for an insurance permit the event, if required by the venue.
  6. Add the details of the event to the CGAA website by clicking on the green “Post your event” button on the top right hand corner on the website.
  7. Club PRO should promote the course and request County PRO to also promote the course.
  8. Tutor to use data collection form provided by CGAA to be completed by course participants to receive certification.
  9. CGAA Coaching Officer coordinates issuing certificates to participants after successful completion of course.

Reminder: it is mandatory that Clubs or Divisional committees intending to organize any referee or coaching courses at any level must contact the CGAA Coaching Officer at coachingofficer.ca@gaa.ie. Clubs/Divisions are not to contact Tutors directly prior to the Tutor being assigned and approved.
